Friability

A material's ability to be easily crumbled. In brewing, friability is a measure of the hardness of grains of malted barley.

Brewers want friable grains because it means the malt is dry and has been stored well. A highly friable malt grain will crush easily into several clean pieces, which will provide proper filtration in the mash bed.
