American Corona Consumption Contributing to Drought in Mexico

The brewery that produces Corona, Negra Modelo, and Pacifico in the Mexican city of Zaragoza in Nava, Coahilua, is a large contributor to the drought the area is currently experiencing.

The Constellations Brands-owned brewery uses 1,200 liters of water per second from 500-meter-deep wells. Mayor Leonicio Martinez Sanchez wrote in a letter to the state governor that the there "is no water for human consumption." He further wrote that massive amount of water the brewery uses means that when the residents of the municipality turn on their taps, "there's barely a drop of water."

Because American demand for Corona, Negra Modelo, and Pacifico is so great, the brewery plans to increase production.
