Imperial
Originally a term used to designate beers made for the crowned heads of Europe, but is now used by craft brewers to designate a beer that is typically higher in alcohol and possibly hop bitterness.
"Imperial" and "Double" are used interchangeably. A beer drinker can expect an imperial or double version of a beer to be similar to an established beer style, such as IPA, but with a boosted alcohol level. A "double" version of a beer style does not mean that the beer will have twice the amount of ingredients or alcohol, but is rather an amplified version of the base style.
