Zoiglbier

An effervescent form of Kellerbier. It is brewed with more highly kilned malt than Kellerbier, so it is a slightly darker amber beer than Kellerbier.

Zoiglbier stems from the Franconian word for "sign." Households in the 13th and 14th centuries brewed their own beer and would hang the Zoigl outside their houses when there was beer ready to drink.

The Zoigl was made up of two blue and white triangles and looked similar to the Star of David. One triangle symbolized the three elements used to brew beer: fire, water, and air. The other triangle represented the three ingredients used to brew beer: malt, hops, and water. A beer mug or pine branch was typically in the center of the sign.
